Aurora
Magical organic textures created from soft cellos, ethereal voices, glass strikes, harmonic guitar plucks, and breathy world flutes.
In collaboration with absolute wizkid, script sorcerer, and sound specialist ockpii, we recreated a polar village under the stars and at the foot of glaciers.
Geared towards producers who admire gentle beauty, it is designed to layer individually and interactively by turning the lights on or off in the houses of the polar village. Hit the keys, let the aurora borealis appear, and switch on the romantic lights for extra width, reverb, and just the right amount of saturation at the top.

Watch Oliver Patrice Weder taking Cloud Guitar for a spin and explaining its functions.
Each house with a fadable light represents one of the sound layers, allowing users to combine the seven layers in any constellation and intensity, achieving countless combinations.
The dim function is assigned to host automation in order to record your movements and they can be assigned to any MIDI CC controller for extra performance feel. You can also switch the light on by shift-clicking, or turn them off by cmd-clicking onto a house.
The playing mode can be switched from velocity to CC11, or a combination.
And because we are kind and love sharing our taste, turning on the romantic lights (moving your mod wheel or CC1 control) adds just the right amount of reverb and saturation while gently nudging the EQ settings.
Let those charged particles and geometric storms interact with your magnetic field and atmosphere, and create some tangible, evolving, and shimmering pads.
Usually, conversations between the Smokestack Sounds team and Ockpii begin something like this: “Do you think we can make that mountain move to turn the distortion up, and maybe change the type of distortion depending on how much snow is falling?”
He listens carefully, pauses for a moment, and then with that unmistakable cheeky smile says, “Let me see what I can do.”
A little while later he returns with something completely unexpected: “I found a new way to make this work.” We test it, we are blown away, and then he inevitably adds, “Move the mod wheel.” Suddenly a shooting star appears and the sound becomes massive.
With Aurora, Ockpii, also known as Filipe Monteiro, has taken the Smokestack Sounds ethos and vision to an extraordinary level, not only as a scriptor but also as the recording sound artist and the visual designer behind the world you hear and see. It's the first of many collaborations and we set the bar high.

Dan strikes again!
After his stunning track and breakdown of Cloud Guitar, he's put Aurora through its paces. We love his warmth, purity and kindness in his presentations.
As an ambient, electronic and cinematic composer, Dan expertly takes you through the library and pulls you right into the magic world of the Northern Lights.
